Summary

  • Records placed here: 429 previously unassigned records (381 proven, 39 probable, 9 possible), on the reviewed line (H-IDs) and on the cousin lines, plus Igis entries found in other registers (Haldenstein, Zizers, Obertoggenburg, Grabs, Wartau SG, Richterswil ZH). 100 Hegnauers, 22 couples with a Hegnauer husband, 22 daughters' marriages.
  • Earliest record: the burial of a Jacob Hegnauer, August 1744 (no age or kin). The earliest couples are Nutt × Madlena Krädtli (children 1748–1762, F0062) and Johann Heinrich (b. c.1734) × Elsbeth Pfeiffer (m. 1763, F0064), men of one generation — perhaps brothers, perhaps sons of the Jacob of 1744; no record says.
  • Two stems, both reaching the 19th century:
    • Nutt (I) → Christian (H0157, possible) → Jakob (H0155) → Luzius (H0001), the Missouri emigrants of 1856, and Nutt (H0221) → Peter (H0227), who left for America in 1872; also Nutt (I) → Johann Heinrich (b. 1757, probable) × Maria Hartmann (m. 1788), whose daughters married into Toggenburg (Hermann), Igis (Big) and Küng families. 63 descendants in six generations.
    • Johann Heinrich (b. c.1734) → Jacob (b. 1766; proven by his burial naming both parents) × Maria Ladner (m. 1794) → Johann Heinrich (1801–1881) × Catharina Michel, Rudolf (1807–1841) × Elsbeth Roffler → Johann Ulrich (1838–1877) × Adelheid Michel, and the daughters Anna Margret × Christian Metz, Anna × Peter Mathis, Katharina × Johann Baptist Sutter, Maria × Michael Dolf. 19 descendants, five generations, ~200 records. This is the cousin line of the 1830s–1870s ("Jacob × Maria Ladner" and "Rudolf × Elsbeth Rofler" in places/switzerland.md).

  1. Christian (H0157) = Christen b. 1748, son of Nutt × Madlena Krädtli? Still possible only; the marriage entry of 1777 and the burial of 1825 (images) may name his parents.
  2. Johann Heinrich (b. 1757) = husband of Maria Hartmann: probable (burial 1826 "b. 1757"); his marriage of 1788 may name his father.
  3. How are Nutt (I) and Johann Heinrich (b. c.1734) related, and who was the Jacob buried in 1744? The Igis registers before 1744 (and the Bürgerregister) should show when the family first appears and whether it came from elsewhere — the key test of H1 (README).
  4. Which Elsbeth married Christian Gadient (child 1838)? Probably Elsbeth b. 1815 (H0155's daughter).
  5. Maria (b. 1804, daughter of Jacob × Maria Ladner) — the Maria who married Heinrich Rusch at Wartau SG in 1834? Possible only.
  6. Magdalena × Jakob Hensler (1816): her parents; Magdalena b. c.1793 (Johann Heinrich × Maria Hartmann) married Küng in 1833 and is therefore probably someone else.

  • Nothing in the harvest names Jacob's origin. The Elgg Hans Jacob of 1686 (now [H1603] in Elgg, canton Zürich: the Hegnauer families, 1553–1875) remains a possible candidate, and a Jacob "Hagenauwer" of Stein am Rhein (father of a bride in 1721, Swiss cities and other cantons: Basel, Bern, St. Gallen, Zürich city, Luzern, and entries without a parish) is a new lead with the same spelling; neither is linked.
