Peter Hegnauer was born at Igis, Graubünden, Switzerland, on 14 September 1849 and baptised the same day, the ninth child of Peter Hegnauer and Anna Berri, and the only son to be given his father's name.1 He died on 20 April 1851, about a year and seven months old, and was buried on 23 April.2 A brother, Christian, had been born to the family four months before his death.
