Life story
Adam Adank married Maria Hegnauer, a daughter of Peter Hegnauer and Anna Berri of Igis, Graubünden, Switzerland, in August 1863; the marriage was entered at Igis, and also at Ardez and probably at Fläsch.1 Their children Anna, Christian and Maria were baptised in 1864 at Ardez and in 1865 and 1868 probably at Fläsch.2–4
The family later settled at Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa. There Adam's son Christian married Clara Rundorff in 1888 and his daughter Mary married Edmund Hellwig in 1890; both records name Adam Adank as the father.5 He is also named as the father in the Iowa death records of his sons George (1923) and Chris (1940), both of Burlington Township.6 When and where Adam was born and died has not been found by the study.

All four indexes give the marriage of Maria Hegnauer, daughter of Peter Hegnauer and Anna Berri, and Adam Adank in August 1863. The couple is named as the parents at the baptisms of three children in 1864–1868 and in the Iowa marriage and death records of their children at Burlington from 1888 to 1940.

- Sources: FamilySearch index entries only (Swiss church records, Iowa marriages and deaths); no images have been viewed. His own birth, emigration and death records have not been found.
- Origin: Probably Fläsch, Graubünden. His children's baptisms of 1865 and 1868, and one of the three marriage entries, are on digital folder 8126175. That film holds the Jenins, Zizers (Catholic), Fläsch and Sur registers and carries 864 Adank index entries (probable). His first child Anna was baptised at Ardez in the Lower Engadine in January 1864 (folder 8196022, image group 004; probable). The couple's marriage is entered there too, with Christian Adank and Anna Catharina Adank, probably his parents; an Anna Catharina Adank was baptised on the same folder in 1860. The index gives these entries only "Schweiz", which FamilySearch standardizes as "Schwyz", not the canton.1, 2, 3, 4
