Verena Hegnauer was born at Igis, Graubünden, Switzerland, on 19 July 1836 and baptised there five days later, the second child and eldest daughter of Peter Hegnauer and Anna Berri.1

Verena's life with Jakob Theurer appears in the Igis registers from 1857. A son, Jakob Ludwig Theurer, was baptised in 1857, and a daughter, Maria Emilie Theurer, on 17 February 1858; in both entries the parents are Jakob Theurer and Verena Hegnauer.2–3 Their marriage is indexed at Igis in 1859, with her parents named as Peter Hegnauer and Anna Berri.4 Nothing later is known of the family.

  • Order of events: The marriage is indexed three times, always as 1859 with no day or month, while the two children were baptised in 1857 and 1858.4, 2, 3 Either the children were born before the marriage and legitimated by it, or the year of the marriage is misread. The images should settle it.
