What was mapped

All 1613 unassigned records whose place is in the United States, Canada or Latin America, or whose collection is an American one (U.S. censuses, state vital-record indexes, NUMIDENT, SSDI, Social Security claims, GenealogyBank and "Obituary Records" indexes, New York land records, muster rolls, draft cards, passenger and crew lists, address indexes, Find a Grave/BillionGraves in the Americas), including those with a blank place.

• Placed: 1545 records (635 confirmed, 795 probable, 115 possible).
• Left unplaced: 68 records (reasons below): mainly living people known only from address indexes, obituary mentions with no relatives, passenger entries with no age, and officiant initials that match no known minister.
• People: 53 existing study people (H-IDs) received records; 168 new person keys were made, 44 of them living (birth decade only, "LIVING — do not publish" in people.csv; shown only as [living] in the charts).

Keys. New people are US-<GROUP>-NNN (ROC Rochester/Seengen lineage including Buffalo and Cuyahoga Falls; NYC New York City and arrivals; CAN Canton; OH Mansfield; MO Missouri; MN, WA Minnesota/Washington; IL, KS, KY, CA, TX, OTH other states; NWK New Jersey; LAT Latin America). Existing people keep their H-IDs. Family keys are US-<GROUP>-Fnn; in map.csv a record carries the person's family of origin when known, otherwise the couple family in which the person is a spouse. Confidence in map.csv is that of the record-to-person identification (confirmed / probable / possible); link strengths between generations (proven / probable / possible) are in each file's evidence table and in the charts.

Links to existing study branches

• Luzius H0001's descendants: 49 H-IDs of the line received records, 23 of them in the Missouri file (1860 Gasconade household; Civil War cards; Missouri censuses, marriages and pensions; Oklahoma; Oregon). New: Emil (1870, probable son of Leonhard H0003), a separate John of the 2nd Missouri Infantry (1861).
• H0019 (Rev. Leonard Samuel) is the Canton, Ohio cluster: his wife Anna K. Yoss, five children and their families (23 new keys), and about 320 officiant entries for him and his son Rev. Robert Lawrence.
• H0017 → H0025/H0026 (the owner's line): records placed on H0017, H0063, H0065, H0025, H0105, H0026, H0098, H0027, H0261, H0263 and the living Wilson-line H-IDs; new: three wives of H0263, two living grandchildren, a possible son of H0173 (Robert Galen, 1963–2025).
• Peter H0227's branch: Wilbur C. H0423's wife Ina Fisher and daughter Margery; his probable children by Frieda Hipp, Wilbur Morris (Minneapolis, 1929–1995) and Jacqueline Jean; Nutt H0381 probably died at Chicago in 1897 ("Untin"); Verena H0387 (Mrs. Theurer) appears in a New York City marriage; Elsbeth H0414 in a Minnesota death record.

H2 findings

H2 (the U.S. clusters descend from more than one Swiss immigrant family) is supported, but the clusters collapse into fewer lines than the hypothesis listed:

• Two separate Swiss origins account for nearly all American Hegnauers: Igis (Graubünden) for Missouri, Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, Canton/Massillon, Ohio, Mansfield/Columbus, Ohio, and Indiana; and Seengen (Aargau) for Rochester, Buffalo, Cuyahoga Falls, and the Quebec/Massachusetts/Rhode Island family, plus the New York City seaman Rudolf. Canton and Cuyahoga Falls are not independent clusters: Canton is Igis (H0019), Cuyahoga Falls is Rochester (Edward John, born Rochester 1901).
• Newark, N.J. remains a third, unresolved line (origin not stated; its founder married at Newark in 1873).
• A German line reaches America only in the 20th century (Fürth, Texas; Katharina, New York 1936).
• No record links Igis and Seengen, or either of them with Elgg or Uster. Seengen is a new Swiss origin for the study: the Switzerland mapping should look for Hegnauer citizens of Seengen (Aargau), which would bear on H1 (a Hegnauer family in Aargau, far from Hegnau, besides the Zürich and Igis lines).

Top open questions

1. Seengen registers: Jacob Hegnauer's birth (c.1825) and marriage to Verena Siegrist (c.1845) and the baptisms of his children 1846–1870; the Aargau marriage index entries (O01991 Luise 1869; Jakob × Maria Studler) and Rudolf of NYC (1881) belong in the same search. Where the Seengen Hegnauers came from (Zürich?) matters for H1.
2. Prove the Rochester sons Rudolph (d. 1931) and Albert Gottlieb (d. 1944) (New York death certificates), and Edward John of Cuyahoga Falls (1961 Ohio death certificate or SS-5).
3. Chicago "Untin" Hegnauer (1897): read the Cook County death certificate to prove or reject Nutt H0381.
4. Wilbur Morris Hegnauer (1929–1995): son of Wilbur C. (H0423) or of an unknown "William"? Indiana birth certificate.
5. Newark: Louis Arnold's birth and death records (parents; origin); whether James Ernest (1880–1948) was Swiss-born and whether he is the James of Nebraska and Washington.
6. Charles Albert Hegnauer (1884–1974) and Richard A. (b. 1912), Rochester: parents.
7. Hedy (Hegnauer) Wirz and Samuel × Rosa Siegrist; Rosa of Fürth (Carl × Freida Ordinger): pass to the Switzerland and Germany mappings.
8. The GenealogyBank officiant entries "Rev. H. L." (8) and "Rev. Howard": read a few obituaries to see whether they are Rev. L. S. or another clergyman.
