Life story
Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" Kamm was born on 14 December 1883 in Pleasant Gap Township, Bates County, Missouri, the first child of Robert Kamm, a farmer from Highland, Illinois, and his wife Barbara Hegnauer, who had married that March. The doctor who delivered her, George W. Wilson of Papinville, reported the birth, and it was entered twice in the county's registers.1–2
Maggie grew up on the family's rented farms, first in Pleasant Gap Township, where in January 1900 she was on the honor roll of the Scifres School, and from about 1910 in Osage Township, outside Rich Hill.3–5 She never married. In January 1920, at thirty-five, she was living at home and working as a servant in a private family.6 She was "Miss Maggie" among the survivors when her mother died in 1923,7 and in March 1927 she went with her father to Rockville for the funeral of her uncle Martin Hegnauer.8 When her father died in January 1934 she and her sister Bertha were the two unmarried daughters.9
Maggie died, according to Find a Grave, in 1949, and she lies in the Kamm family lot in Green Lawn Cemetery at Rich Hill with her parents and her brothers.10
