Life story
Lizzie K. Hegnauer was born in January 1895 in Missouri, the fifth of the seven children of Christian Hegnauer and Anna Wirz, and grew up on their farm in Pleasant Gap Township, Bates County.1 She was still at home, unmarried, in 1910, with her brothers Leonard and Christian and her sisters Rosa and Marie; her eldest sisters, Lena and Clara, had left home.2 In February 1918, during the First World War, "Miss Lizzie Hegnauer" was in charge of the sewing for the Red Cross work of the Prairie City neighbourhood; the same newspaper column reported the death of her grandmother Susanna at her father's house.3
On 6 August 1919, at Butler, Lizzie married Albert J. Durst.4 Their son, Sterling H. Durst, was born about 1920; he married at Louisville, Kentucky, in September 1943.5 Lizzie died before her father; his obituary gives the year as 1950.6 Where she lived after her marriage and where she died and is buried have not yet been found.

The 1900 census, which asked each person's month and year of birth, gives Jan 1895, Missouri, for Lizzie, the fifth child of Christian and Anna Hegnauer. No birth record has been found.

The Prairie City column of Feb 1918, which also reports her grandmother's death at her father's home; she is the only unmarried Lizzie Hegnauer known in the neighbourhood (her cousin Lizzie, H0053, was then Mrs. Harden or Johnson).

FamilySearch's index of the Bates County marriage records gives the marriage of Lizzie K. Hegnauer and Albert J. Durst at Butler on 6 Aug 1919. The 1943 marriage record of their son names his parents as Albert J. Durst and Lizzie K. Hegnauer, and her father's obituary calls her Lizzie Durst.

Year from her father's 1957 obituary, which lists her among his children who had died before him; place not known.
The only evidence is her father's obituary, a secondary source, which gives 1950. The same passage gives an impossible year (1958) for her sister Marie, so the year is recorded as approximate. No death record has been found.

- Identity: The Lizzie of the 1900 and 1910 censuses, daughter of Christian and Anna, is the Lizzie K. Hegnauer who married Albert J. Durst at Butler in 1919: her son's marriage record names his parents as Albert J. Durst and Lizzie K. Hegnauer, and her father's obituary names his late daughter Lizzie Durst.1, 2, 4, 5, 6 The facts come from the Ancestry tree's attached census records and FamilySearch's indexes; no image has been read.
- Name: The middle initial K. comes from the marriage indexes.4, 5 Lizzie may be a pet form of Elizabeth, but no record gives Elizabeth.
- Not her: her first cousin once removed, Lizzie (Elizabeth) Hegnauer (born about 1876), daughter of Martin Hegnauer, also lived near Rockville; she was Mrs. Johnson by 1908 and Mrs. Harden by 1926.
- Death: Only the year, 1950, from her father's obituary.6 Her son's marriage at Louisville in 1943 suggests that the family may have moved to Kentucky; the Kentucky death index for 1950 is the next place to look.
