The compiler's direct Hegnauer line: status and gaps

Working checklist (started 27 Sep 2026). The compiler's instruction: work the direct lineage to exhaustion before the other lines. "Exhausted" means for each person: every findable record found and linked in the study's index of records; the master record people/H####.md complete, with each relationship graded; and the person correct and sourced in Ancestry (Hegnauer/Putt 206849982 only), WikiTree and FamilySearch. The two living generations are not named here.

Jacob's first wife, Margreth Hartmann (H1435, m. 1715, d. 1724), is not in the direct line: Nuttin (1725) is Leta Gujan's son.

A further generation is possible only: the one Leonhard in the index is baptised at Luzein in 1763, son of Heinrich Pleisch × Lena Dönz. Deciding it needs the image of Christina's 1791 baptism (DGS 8126170_003).

Status on the evening of 27 Sep 2026

Every person in generations 3–10, and Christina's parents, now has:

  • a master in the approved voice;
  • a live WikiTree biography;
  • a profile on Ancestry (Hegnauer/Putt) and on FamilySearch, with the platform IDs in the study's list of people.

The index has been searched for every event in this line (see The direct line in the registers). What is left falls into three kinds:

  • records that are online but not indexed, which can be read page by page;
  • register images that can only be seen at a FamilySearch Center;
  • the wives' own parents.

What is left, couple by couple

Robert Lucius (1916–1999) × Adelaide; Robert Lucius (1887–1969) × Lotta. Done on all three platforms. Adelaide's FamilySearch burial (legacy data, April 1995, Washington) was left as it is: it is probably her cremation, but that is not proven wrong (see the study's sync notes).

Leonhard (1843–1916) × Susanna Katharina Hirschi. Done on all three platforms; the duplicate Find a Grave memorial is resolved.

  • Leonhard's naturalization record is not found (the 1900 census says "naturalized").
  • Susanna's baptism: found (27 Sep). Amsoldingen, 5 Jun 1846, born 15 May 1846 (Staatsarchiv Bern, K Amsoldingen 5, p. 167). The same registers give her sisters Magdalena (1836) and Margaritha Rosalia (1844, H2250–H2251) and her parents' banns (Reutigen, 1833; they married at Thun on 26 Oct 1833).   • Her father, Christian Hirschi (H0169), is "Peter's son, of Schangnau" in four registers, so his father's name is proven. His Thierachern baptism of 28 Aug 1814, son of Peter Hirschi × Maria Stutzmann (H2192–H2193), is very probably his. The Schangnau and Thierachern registers are being searched (Batch B).

Luzius (1819–after 1890) × Anna Margreth Bernet. The master is detailed: the Chace manifest of 1856, the Gasconade land, the Home Guard, the 1861 descriptive book, the 1890 veterans schedule and the pension.

  • Luzius's death is still unknown. No widow's application was made. The pension file (NARA, certificate 638,825) is the key source; ordering it costs money, so it is the compiler's decision.
  • The 1870 census is not found by index. A page-by-page search of Prairie City Township (Bates Co.) and of Boeuf and Roark Townships (Gasconade Co.) has not been made yet. That can be done online.
  • Anna Margreth's death is unknown. She was alive in 1884, and the 1897 in the trees has no source.
  • Her parents: Johannes Bernet × Dorothea Grest. Their names are proven by her baptism; the records identified as theirs are probable. Being added (27 Sep).
  • Johannes's birth year (1839 or 1840): the register image is needed.

Jakob (1783–1858) × Christina Pleisch. Done. Christina's baptism (probably the Tschina of Luzein, 1791) needs the image.

Christian (c.1749–1825) × Ursula Radig (Nadig). Done. Ursula's baptism and parents are not found; the surname is probably Nadig. The images of the 1777 marriage and the 1825 burial may say where they came from.

Nutt (1725–after 1762) × Madlena Krädtli. Done.

  • Their marriage (about 1745) is probably in a gap in the index; the image is needed (DGS 8014188_002).
  • Nutt's burial is not found.
  • Madlena's 1774 burial is possible only, as the record gives no married surname.
  • Her baptism of 1722 (parents Jacob Krädtli × Margret Däscher) is possible.

Jacob (m. 1715) × Leta Gujan. Done, and on WikiTree after the Pre-1700 certification.

  • The August 1744 burial (66V7-V7GH) leans to the father but cannot be decided from the index.
  • Leta's baptism and burial are not found.
  • Jacob's origin: the images of his 1715 marriage and the Igis Hintersassenbuch are viewable only at a FamilySearch Center. A second search (27 Sep, evening) found a Hans Heinrich Hegnauer buried at Igis in 1729 and Jacob's probable sister Elsbeth (born about 1690) buried there in 1759. Both siblings named a son Hans Heinrich. That fits the family of Hans (Heinrich) Hegnauer × Elsbeth Bosshart, married 1684 at Volketswil, Hegnau's own parish, with children baptised at Elgg in 1689 and 1691 (possible only; Where did Jacob Hegnauer come from?). The Elgg Hans Jacob of 1686 and a Volketswil Jacob of 1682 remain possible.

  4. Then the other Hegnauer lines, into the same Ancestry tree ("all one for now"), starting with Elgg, the best candidate for Jacob's origin.
