Variant-spelling harvest, FamilySearch historical records
Read-only harvest of FamilySearch historical-record search results under the spellings that the original extract (the study's harvest files, exact surname "Hegnauer") missed. Nothing on FamilySearch was edited, attached or downloaded. Output: the study's harvest files (132 lines = result pages, 1,748 new rows, 1,748 distinct ARKs). Each row is in the same layout as the original harvest: {"ark": "1:1:…", "cells": ["More", "Name | Role | Collection", "Label<nbsp>date | place …", "Parents … | Spouses … | Children …", ""]}. The search field of every line says what was searched. Rows whose ARK was already in , in the url column of the study's index of records, or earlier in this file were skipped. Correction (27 Sep 2026, later the same day): the "Schwyz" entries of this harvest are not from the canton Schwyz. FamilySearch standardizes an index place of only "Schweiz" as "Schwyz". The entries are in the Volketswil register (DGS 8120584 = Film 889427, item 1), the parish of Hegnau: see Volketswil, the parish of Hegnau: the Hegnauer families, 1590–1801. The wording below has been changed to match; the study's tools keeps FamilySearch's "Schwyz" out of the data from now on.
Method and two technical problems
- Row format verified. Before harvesting, I extracted page 1 of the original search (surname Hegnauer, exact, Switzerland). All 45 rows I checked were byte-identical to the stored rows (SHA-256 per row). The importer (
tools/import_familysearch.py parse_row) reads the new lines without change. - The page could not POST to the receiver. Brave opens the TCP connection to 127.0.0.1 but never sends the request. It holds the request behind a local-network-access permission prompt that I could not see or answer (and should not grant). One such idle socket also wedged the single-threaded receiver on :8768: curl to it timed out until late in the session, and it now answers again. Workaround used: the page rendered each result page as JSON, which I read with get_page_text. I then appended it to exactly as the study's tools would have (body + newline, JSON.stringify byte form). Before each append, the SHA-256 of the whole page was checked against the SHA-256 computed in the browser (all 132 pages matched). Everything is therefore already in the file. Do not re-POST it: that would duplicate lines.
- the study's index of records was being modified while I harvested (another process was importing this file). The dedup "already in study" counts in the tables below are therefore approximate. The row counts come from the JSONL itself.
- The totals are the ones FamilySearch reported on page 1. On the large searches the total drifted while paging (e.g. 516 → 507, 2,496 → 2,467), so a handful of rows may have fallen between pages.

- Earliest entries per place (new to the study): Fehraltorf 1548 (Joannes Hegnoren, bapt. 6 Aug 1548, father Jacob; 6F8H-S3SK) and 1550 (Margaretha Hegnorer; 6F84-R1JR). Elgg 3 Sep 1553 (Anna Hegnoüwer, Hans × Margreta Wister; 66VS-87W8), then Elgg marriages 1554–1556. Effretikon 1559 (Hans Hegaucker × Anna Woss; 6FZ5-9XBY). Winterthur 1562. Pfeffikon LU 1584. - A family around Hegnau itself. Fehraltorf (1548–1636) and Illnau-Effretikon (1559–1624) have "Hegnoren/Hegnorer", "Hegnaucker/Hegnacker/Hegnocker/Hegaucker" and "Hegnaur" (Ursula, bapt. Jan 1595, father Hans). These are the parishes next to Hegnau (Volketswil). If the images confirm the name, this is the oldest church-book Hegnauer family and sits closest to the name's origin. Hans (m. 1559), Ulrich (children 1564–1587) and Felix (m. 1599, children 1601–1612) are the heads.
- Volketswil Hegnauwer line, 1590–1736 (first reported here as the "Schwyz" line). It is not in the study. Clinhans (children 1590–1597); Felix × Elsbeth Wolffensperger (1601–1613); Hans Jacob/Jagli × Barbara Ochsner (1605–1616); Hans × Margreth Ochsner (1627–1646); Marx × Cleophe Isler (1638–1650); Andres × Anna Eberhart (m. 1634, children 1635–1650). There are later burials to 1736. The index gives the place only as "Schwyz, Switzerland", which is FamilySearch's standard for an entry placed only in "Schweiz". Correction 27 Sep 2026: the film is DGS 8120584, the Volketswil register (Hegnau's parish), and 149 more entries have been harvested from it, most spelled Hegneüwer; see Volketswil, the parish of Hegnau: the Hegnauer families, 1590–1801.
- The Luzern Seetal line goes back from 1643 to 1584. Pfeffikon: Jagli × Margreth Thomman (1584–1588), Rudolff × Dorothea Marta Wÿlerin (1588), Melchior (m. 1627, 1650), Jacob × Maria Blattner (1665–1685). Also Schongau 1618–1737, Hochdorf 1608–1676, Aesch 1620–1739, Emmen 1613, Altishofen 1672–1689, Eschenbach, Richenthal and Hitzkirch.
- Bern/Seeland goes back from 1673 to 1592–1609. Uli Hegnower × Anna Öler at Biel (children 1592–1604); Peter Hegnouwer × Anna Schüler at Bremgarten bei Bern (1609); Rodolph Hegenauwer × Verena Vogt, m. Muri bei Bern 1645 (children baptized at Bern 1650 and 1656); Twann 1612.
- Igis: the harvest now holds every variant entry from section 1 of the 27 Sep note. That includes the surname-less Jacob of 1727 (66VM-VH56) and the Hamauer, Hegrnauer, Hegeauer, Hencknauer, Hegauer and Heagenauer rows. It adds Elsab "Hegnauerj" × Andreas Wolf, m. 1 Dec 1802 (66VW-KXDD), and three married-name burials: Luzia Hegnauer Luzi 1853, Kathrina Hegnauer Michel 1857 and Katharina Hegnauer-Spiess 1869.
- Uster: Hans Heinrich "Hegnaüer" (father Peter) m. Dorothea Meyer at Uster 26 Sep 1730 (66VW-F6BZ). Their surname-less children run 1732–1755. On the index, this links the Uster line to Peter of Elgg.

Skipped or not done
- Germany Hagenauer (3,958), stopped at the study's request. Also skipped: German Hegenauer outside Baden, Württemberg and Hohenzollern; US Hegenauer rows that do not name Switzerland; US Hagenauer outside OH/NY/NJ that do not name Switzerland.
- Hagnauer, not harvested (Switzerland 294, US 1,080). This is the separate Aarau and Madison Co. name.
- Hegner outside Elgg (3,011 in Switzerland 1550–1700: Winterthur, Kloten, March).
- Surveyed but not harvested: father Hegen* (360; Hegendorn, Hegentobler …), Hogen* (499; mostly Hogenbuch, Hogenbach), and the full Hegu* (149), Hega* (272) and Hegr* (117) sets. Only their Hegnauer-like spellings were taken.
- Mother- and spouse-surname searches for the variants were run for Elgg Hegner only.
- The "similar spellings" (fuzzy) option was not used. Wildcards were used instead, and their labels say so.
