“Christian Hegnauer Dies in Butler”

An obituary of Christian Hegnauer, who died at Butler, Missouri, on Friday, 6 September 1957, aged 90, after more than 75 years in Bates County. A son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Hegnauer (Leonhard Hegnauer and Susanna Katharina Hirschi), he was born, the notice says, on 3 May 1867 near Alhambra, Illinois (printed "Alhambria"), and moved to the county with his parents; the study accepts 1868 as the year of his birth.

He had married Anna Wirz (printed "Wertz"), who died before him; the notice appears to give 1951 for her death, but her death certificate shows that she died in 1943. Of their seven children, three had died: Marie (Mrs. Whitener), whose death is misdated 1958, Lizzie Durst in 1950 and Christian in 1951.

He was survived by a son, the Rev. Leonard Hegnauer of Canton, Ohio; by three daughters, in Rockville, Adrian and Butler; by two brothers, Leonard Hegnauer of Spokane, Washington, and Robert Hegnauer of Banning, California; by a sister, Mrs. Katy Link; and by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
