Life story
Flora Krattly was born on 19 November 1879 at Carthage, Missouri, a daughter of Sylvester Krattly and Christina Hegnauer, Swiss-born farmers of Marion Township, Jasper County, Missouri.1 She was six months old at the census of June 1880, and in 1900, at nineteen, she was still at home on the farm west of Carthage.2–3
Before 1913 Flora married Charles F. Rose; her father's will of that year names her as Flora Rose.1, 4 She stands in the back row of a photograph of the whole family taken in front of the farmhouse in those years.5 When her father died in May 1916 she was living east of Carthage; the Hermann paper's list of his survivors left her out.6–7 In March 1927 "Mrs. Rose and Miss Kratly of Carthage" travelled to Rockville for the funeral of their uncle Martin Hegnauer, her mother's brother.8 By 1934, when her mother died, she was living at Carterville.9
Flora was a widow when she died at 421 East Main Street in Carterville on 18 April 1965, aged eighty-five, two days after she had been taken there from her home on Route 2, Carthage. Her death certificate names her parents as Sylvester Krattly and Christine Hegnauer. She was buried on 22 April in a cemetery in Jasper County whose name is only partly legible on the certificate.1, 10

- Husband: Charles F. Rose is not yet in the study; the marriage (probably Jasper County, 1900–1912) and his death (before April 1965) have not been searched. The informant on her death certificate was a Rose of Carthage, probably a son or grandson, who may be living and is not named here.
- "Miss Kratly" in 1927: one of her sisters still unmarried at that time: Anna, Emma or perhaps Alma, whose marriage fell between 1920 and 1934.8
