Life story
Troy F. Brown was living at Appleton City, in St. Clair County, Missouri, when on 3 April 1905 he took out a licence at Butler, the seat of neighbouring Bates County, to marry Bertha Hegnauer of Rich Hill, a daughter of Martin Hegnauer. He was then over twenty-one. They were married at Butler two days later, on 5 April 1905, by the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church.1
In September 1908 Bertha, as "Mrs. Troy Brown", went with her father and sister to visit relatives at Carthage.2 Troy and Bertha had two daughters, Ramona Arlene and Wilma.3–4 By 1927 Troy was known as Dr. Troy Brown. When his father-in-law died that March, it was Troy who sent the obituary to the Appleton City Journal, and the paper noted that "Mrs. Troy Brown and family of Appleton City" attended the funeral.3 Bertha died at Appleton City in January 1956; Find a Grave names Troy F. Brown as her husband.4 When and where Troy died has not been found.
