  • Match: strong. T11S R13E W.M. is the Metolius/Culver district (then Crook Co.; Jefferson Co. from 1914), where he was enumerated in 1910 ("Kutcher", Crook Co.) and died in 1935. A homestead patent requires five years' residence and cultivation, so the entry was probably made about 1905 or earlier. [The leading zero in serial "03149" / "ORTD 0003149" is, I believe, the GLO's marking for an entry already pending when serial numbering began on 1 Jul 1908, but this has not been checked.] With the 1905 Marion Co. tax list and the Oct 1910 sale of the Salem-area farm (below), this dates the move to central Oregon to between 1901 and 1910, probably about 1905. The case file will settle it.

Ancestry indexes several Salem "directory" entries for Christian Hegnauer; the images seen are Marion County tax lists, which list property owners with their assessed valuation and post office. They show he still held taxable property in Marion Co. after moving to central Oregon.

  • BLM GLO: "Hagnauer" 5 results (1 relevant, above); "Hegnauer" 0 (H0003 survey). Not searched: "Hegnaur", "Stadler" in Oregon (for Elizabeth's family), or by legal description around 29-11S-13E.
  • Ancestry, all collections, surname Hegnauer, residence Oregon: 64 results; the Christian/Elizabeth items are the censuses, directories and tax lists above; the rest are Edward J. Hegnauer's family (Portland 1927-1950) and modern entries.

The Bates County Democrat of 9 Jun 1892 ("C. Hegnauer and Fred and Wm. Hammer, of Prairie, were in the city") must be Leonhard's son Christian, since Christian (H0007) was in Oregon by 1891.
  • Fold3: not searched. Christian was 10-14 during the Civil War and has no known service; the hints page shows "Upgrade to All Access to search Fold3".
  • The 1895 Bates Co. plat "C. Hegnauer 80": the Oregon evidence (directory 1891, road petitions 1893-94, wood bids 1895, deed 1899) shows Christian (H0007) had left Missouri by 1891, so the 1895 owner is almost certainly Leonhard's son Christian (b. 1868). A deed from Christian (H0007) selling an earlier Bates Co. holding is possible but not seen.
