Heinrich Hegnauer was baptised at Elgg, in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland, on 27 May 1565, the first known child of Brosshans Hegnauer and his second wife, Barbara Rugger, who had married there the summer before.1–2 He had an older half-brother, Baschy, and a younger brother and sister, Hans and Dorothe, who were baptised together in 1570.3–5 No later record can be tied to him with certainty.

  • Sources: FamilySearch's index of the Elgg church book: his baptism, with a separate entry for his father. The image (DGS 8014314) has not been seen.1
  • Name: indexed Heinrich Hegnouwer; his father is "Broshans" in the entry.
  • Parents: proven; the baptism names both.
  • Husband of Cathrina Stadelmann? (possible): Heinrich Hegnauer married Cathrina Stadelmann at Elgg on 30 Apr 1598 and had children baptised there from 1599 to 1608.6 Heinrich of 1565 would have been almost 33 at that wedding, and he is the only Heinrich baptised at Elgg in the index at a fitting date, but no marriage entry of the period names the groom's father. Possible only, as in the study's Elgg reconstruction; not linked.
