Dorothea Hegnauer was baptised at Elgg, in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland, on 4 May 1567, the youngest known child of Hans Hegnauer and Salome Peter.1 She had three older sisters, Anna, Salome and Apollonia.2–4 No later record can be tied to her with certainty.
