Ursula Hegnauer was baptised at Elgg, in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland, on 24 February 1573, very probably the youngest known child of Brosshans Hegnauer and his second wife, Barbara (Barbel) Rugger.1 Her older brothers and sisters included Heinrich, baptised in 1565, and Hans and Dorothe, baptised together in 1570.2–4 No later record of her has been found.

  • Name: indexed Ursula Hegner, her parents "Grashans Hegner" and "Barbel Kügger".
  • Hegner: At Elgg the index spells the family Hegner in entries of 1569–1636. This is the Hegnauer family, not the Hegner family that became citizens of Winterthur in 1430:5 the same couples are indexed under both spellings, and her own parents are Hegnouwer at the baptisms of their other children.2, 3
  • Parents (probable): "Grashans" is read as Brosshans and "Kügger" as Rugger; no other couple of those names is known at Elgg. Graded probable, as in the study's Elgg reconstruction.
