Bläsy Hegnauer was baptised at Elgg, in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland, on 3 November 1566, the youngest known child of Blasius (Bläsy) Hegnauer and Otylia Nussberger.1 Like his elder brother Blasy, baptised nine years before him, he was given his father's name; his sister Genovefa was five years older.2–3 No later record of him has been found.

  • His name: that he was given his elder brother's name suggests, but does not prove, that Blasy (1557) had died by 1566; no burial register survives from before 1591.4
