Dorothe Hegnauer was baptised at Elgg, in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland, on 20 April 1570, together with her brother Hans; they were very probably twins. Their parents were Brosshans Hegnauer and his second wife, Barbara (Barbel) Rugger.1–2 Her older brother Heinrich had been baptised in 1565, and a younger sister, Ursula, very probably followed in 1573.3–4 No later record can be tied to her with certainty.

  • Name: indexed Dorothe Hegnouwer, a form of Dorothea.
  • Parents: proven; the baptism names both.
  • Twins: Dorothe and Hans were baptised on the same day, to the same parents, and are taken to be twins.
  • Wife of Cunrad Büchi? (not linked): a Dorothea Hegner married Cunrad Büchi at Elgg on 3 Aug 1594 and was buried there on 22 Dec 1611.5 The study's Elgg reconstruction names Dorothe of 1570 as one candidate for her, with the widow of Heinrich Rugger; Dorothea, baptised in 1567, would fit as well. No record names her parents.
