Apollonia Hegnauer was baptised at Elgg, in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland, on 30 December 1565, the daughter of Hans Hegnauer and Salome Peter.1 Her sisters Anna and Salome were older, and Dorothea, baptised in May 1567, was the youngest of the four.2–4 No later record can be tied to her with certainty.

Research notes

  • Sources: FamilySearch's index of the Elgg church book: her baptism, with a separate entry for her father. The image (DGS 8014314) has not been seen.1
  • Name: indexed Appolonia Hegnouwer.
  • Parents: proven; the baptism names both.
  • Later Apollonias (not linked): an Apollonia Hegner married Mathys Peter at Elgg on 9 May 1585,5 and an Apollonia Hegner was the wife of Hans Weisshaupt, with children baptised at Elgg from 1592 to 1597;6 the two may be one woman, married twice. An Apollonia Hegnauwer was buried at Elgg on 14 Jan 1624, with no kin in the index.7 Apollonia of 1565 is the only Apollonia Hegnauer baptised at Elgg in the index before 1600, and she would have been 19 in 1585, but no record names the parents of any of these women.
