Life story
Barbara Rugger, also called Barbel, married Brosshans Hegnauer at Elgg, in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland, on 13 August 1564.1 She was his second wife; his first, Madalena, had borne him a son, Baschy, baptised in 1561.2
Children
Barbara's first son, Heinrich, was baptised on 27 May 1565, a little over nine months after the wedding.3 A daughter, Elszbet, very probably hers, followed on 20 July 1567.4 On 20 April 1570 two of her children were baptised together, Hans and Dorothe, very probably twins,5–6 and her youngest known child, Ursula, again very probably hers, was baptised on 24 February 1573.7
Later years
Barbara is last recorded at Ursula's baptism. Her death has not been found; the Elgg burial register survives only from 1591.7–8

- Sources: FamilySearch's index of the Elgg church book: the marriage (1564) and five baptisms. The images (DGS 8014314) have not been seen.
- Name: she is Barbara at the wedding and in 1565, and Barbel, the familiar form, in the other entries. Her surname is indexed Pugger (1564, 1570), Ruger (1565), Kuger (1567) and Kügger (1573), all read as Rugger. The same surname is indexed Rugger at the wedding and Pugger at a later baptism for Anna, wife of Hans Heinrich Hegnauwer (married at Elgg in 1609),9, 10 and Kugger and Rugger for Heinrich, husband of Dorothea Hegner (married at Elgg in 1569).11, 12
- Children: Heinrich, Hans and Dorothe are proven: each baptism names both parents. Elszbet (1567) and Ursula (1573) are probable (see Brosshans's profile).
- Hegner (1573): Ursula's baptism names the parents "Grashans Hegner" and "Barbel Kügger". At Elgg the index spells the family Hegner in entries of 1569–1636. This is the Hegnauer family, not the Hegner family that became citizens of Winterthur in 1430:13 the same couples are indexed under both spellings, this couple among them.
