Lena Ethel Cook was born in Nebraska in February 1890, the eldest daughter of James Harrison Cook and Adelaide M. (Addie) Haywood; the family tree places her birth at Julian, in Nemaha County, on the 3rd.1–2 In June 1900 Lena, ten, was living at Julian with her parents, her brother Arthur, her younger sisters Hazel and Blanche and her small brothers Charles and Calixte; her father was then a lumberman.1

When her father died at Spokane, Washington, in November 1919, his obituary said that all nine of his children but one son were living, so Lena was then alive; it names two of her sisters by their married names, Mrs. Curtis and Mrs. Shiffer, but Lena's married name, if she had married, is not in the abstract read.3 The family tree gives her death on 26 May 1965, without a place or a source.2
