James Arthur Cook, called Arthur in his boyhood, was born in Nebraska in March 1888, the eldest son at home of James Harrison Cook and Adelaide M. (Addie) Haywood.1 In June 1900 Arthur, twelve, was living at Julian, in Nemaha County, where his father was a lumberman and owned the family's house, with his sisters Lena, Hazel and Blanche and his little brothers Charles and Calixte.1

About 1911 his parents moved to Spokane, Washington. By the time his father died there in November 1919, James A. was living at Omaha, Nebraska, as was his youngest brother at home in 1900, Calixte.2 The old family tree gives his death in February 1952, without a place or a source.3
