Dorothy Lucille Curtis was born on 16 October 1911 in Gillett Grove Township, Clay County, Iowa, the second daughter of Arthur Garfield Curtis and Hazel Lucile Cook.1–2 In January 1920, aged eight, she was living with her parents, her sisters Verna and Madge and her little brother, Arthur, on East Fourth Street in Spencer, Clay County, where her father farmed.2 That year the family moved to Chippewa County, in western Minnesota, where her sister Adelaide was born, and by 1930 they had settled in the village of Maynard. Dorothy, then about eighteen, was no longer living at home.3

In 1930 Dorothy married William Cary Harbour, sixteen years her senior, and they made their home at Maynard, where they raised two daughters; William died in 1968.1 She was "Dorothy Harbour of Maynard, Minn." when her mother died in 1978, and again when her sister Adelaide died in 1995.4–5 Dorothy died on 22 November 2002 at Clara City, a neighbouring town in Chippewa County, aged ninety-one, and was buried in the Granite Falls City Cemetery, where her father and her sister Madge also lie.1
