Life story
Edna Curtis was born about 1894, probably in Illinois, the youngest known child of Nathan K. Curtis and Louisa Thomas.1–2 In June 1900 she was six, the baby of the household on her parents' rented farm in Ontario Township, Knox County, Illinois, where her brother Lewis and sister Jennie were still at home.1
By 1910 her parents had left farming and moved to Spencer, the seat of Clay County in northwestern Iowa. That April Edna, sixteen, was the only child still living with them, in a rented house at 801 North Grove Street; her father was living on his own income. Her brother Arthur Garfield was farming with his young family at Gillett Grove, a few miles away.3 By January 1920 Nathan and Louisa were living on their own in the house they owned on East Fifth Street, and Edna had left home.4 Her later life has not yet been traced.
