Life story
Joseph Link, called Joseph Hegnauer Link in the family tree, was born in Missouri about 1914, the youngest known child of Joseph M. Link and Katherine Susanna "Katie" Hegnauer.1 His mother was a daughter of the Swiss-born farmer Leonhard Hegnauer and his wife Susanna Hirschi, of Pleasant Gap Township, Bates County.2
His father died when Joseph was very young, before January 1920, when the census found him the youngest of seven children in his widowed mother's household on the farm in Pleasant Gap Township.1 He grew up there. In 1930 he was single and a laborer, and in 1940 he was still at home, working as a laborer, with his mother, his sisters Alina and Clara and his brother William.3–4 His later life has not been traced.
