Life story
William Link was born in Missouri about 1911, a son of Joseph M. Link and Katherine Susanna "Katie" Hegnauer.1 His mother was a daughter of the Swiss-born farmer Leonhard Hegnauer and his wife Susanna Hirschi, of Pleasant Gap Township, Bates County.2
William was still a small boy when his father died, some time before 1920. In January 1920 he was living with his widowed mother and his six brothers and sisters on the family farm in Pleasant Gap Township.1 He stayed on the farm: in 1930 he was single and working as a laborer, and in 1940 he was one of the four grown children still at home with their mother.3–4 He was probably the William Link of Butler who gave the particulars for his mother's death certificate in April 1961.2
