Life story
Clara Link was born in Missouri about 1909, a daughter of Joseph M. Link and Katherine Susanna "Katie" Hegnauer.1 Her mother was a daughter of the Swiss-born farmer Leonhard Hegnauer and his wife Susanna Hirschi, of Pleasant Gap Township, Bates County.2
In 1910 Clara was the baby of the family, the youngest of five children on her parents' farm in Pleasant Gap Township.3 Two brothers, William and Joseph, were born after her. Her father had died by January 1920, and she grew up in her widowed mother's household.4 In 1930 she was single and at home, her occupation given as "assistant", and in 1940 she was still living on the farm with her mother, her sister Alina and her two younger brothers.1, 5 Her later life has not been traced.
