Life story
Ursula Hegnauer was baptised at Igis, in the Rhine valley of Graubünden, Switzerland, on 16 March 1809, the first child of Jakob Hegnauer and Christina Pleisch, who had married in the Igis church the previous October.1–2 She was given the name of her father's mother, Ursula, who had been buried at Igis eight months before.3–4
Ursula lived only a few days. An infant Ursula Hegnauer, very probably she, was buried at Igis on 19 March 1809, three days after her baptism.5 Her parents' next child, Christian, was baptised in August 1810, and six more children followed, among them Luzius, who took his own family to America in 1856.6–8

- Burial (probable): The two index entries of the burial of 19 Mar 1809 name no parents and give her age as "0 days", which cannot be exact for a child baptised three days before. She is the only Ursula Hegnauer baptised at Igis between 1795 and 1830, and the burial index gives a birth year of 1809, so the burial is very probably hers.5
- Her name: Her father's mother, Ursula Radig (probably born Nadig), was buried at Igis on 17 Jul 1808; her father's baptism of 1783 names his parents as Christian Hegnauer and Urs Radig. Her brother Christian (1810) bore the name of the same grandfather.3, 4, 6
