Life story
Arthur Hammer, Arthur Anton in the family tree, was born in Missouri about 1897, the youngest known child of Fritz (Fred) Hammer and Mary Christina Hegnauer.1 His mother was a daughter of the Swiss-born farmer Leonhard Hegnauer of Pleasant Gap Township.2
In June 1900 Arthur, about three, was the baby of the family on his parents' farm in Pleasant Gap Township, with his sisters Lydia and Emily and his brother William.1 In January 1923 "Fred and Arthur Hammer", evidently Arthur and his father, spent a Sunday at the Fred Stevener home with his uncle Chris Hegnauer and his wife.3 The family tree gives his death as 6 August 1982, but no record of it has been seen (see Research Notes).
