Life story
Lydia Hammer was born in Missouri about 1886, the eldest known child of Fritz (Fred) Hammer and Mary Christina Hegnauer, who had married in Bates County in March 1885.1–2 Her mother was a daughter of the Swiss-born farmer Leonhard Hegnauer of Pleasant Gap Township.3
In June 1900 Lydia, about fourteen, was at school and living on her parents' farm in Pleasant Gap Township with her brothers William and Arthur and her sister Emily. Her aunt Katie Link's family was enumerated on the same census page.1 Her later life has not been traced.

Her only record seen is the 1900 census, where she is in her parents' household (index entry attached to her in the family tree). The tree's birth date, Mar 1886, carries no source in the tree; it was presumably taken from that census entry (the 1900 census asked for month and year of birth), which has not been re-read. The year is recorded as approximate until it is checked.
