Emily C. Hammer was born in Missouri about 1893, a daughter of Fritz (Fred) Hammer and Mary Christina Hegnauer.1 Her mother was a daughter of the Swiss-born farmer Leonhard Hegnauer of Pleasant Gap Township.2

In June 1900 Emily, about six, was living on her parents' farm in Pleasant Gap Township with her sister Lydia and her brothers William and Arthur.1 Her later life has not been traced.
