Hacker Avenue
Julia Theresa Worek was born in Joliet, Will County, Illinois, on 19 June 1915, the eldest daughter of Martin Worek and Margaret (Margarita) Senkowska, who had come to America from the same Galician village, Wesoła. Two weeks later, on 4 July, she was baptised Juliana.1–2 She grew up in a crowded, Polish-speaking house: her brothers Stanley and Andrew were older, and Mary, Joseph and a youngest sister (possibly living) came after her.3–4 In January 1920 the family lived on Hacker Avenue with two boarders, and by 1930 her parents owned their house at 209 Hacker Avenue, where fifteen-year-old Julia was living with them.3–4 Her father died in September 1932, when she was seventeen.5
Mrs. Bahor
By September 1937, when she was twenty-two, Julia had married. The Social Security Administration recorded her then as Julia Theresa Bahor, and she kept the name for the rest of her life.2 No record of that wedding has been found. On 14 April 1951 she was married at St. Thaddeus Church, Joliet, the parish where her sister Mary had married in 1937 and her brother Stanley the year before (see Research Notes and their profiles).6
Julia died on 2 December 2006, at ninety-one.2 Her memorial on Find a Grave, under the name Julia M. Worek Bahor, is linked to her mother's.7
