Jörg Hegnauer was baptised at Elgg, in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland, on 11 August 1562, the son of Hans Hegnauer and Elsa Furer.1 His sister Regula had been baptised fifteen months before him.2 At Elgg, linen making and the linen trade flourished in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.3 No later record of Jörg has been found.
