Ruth Anna Hegnauer was born about 1886, the eldest child of Christian Hegnauer, an emigrant from Igis, Switzerland, and his wife Cornelia (Nellie) Conzett, who had married in Cook County, Illinois, in 1884.1 Her parents lived at Portsmouth and Columbus, Ohio, in the late 1880s and early 1890s, and later at Mansfield (see her father's profile).

On 28 March 1906, aged about twenty, Ruth Anna married Clinton Clyde Balliett in Richland County, Ohio; the record names her parents as Christian Hegnauer and Cornelia M. Conzett.1 Their daughter Elizabeth Balliett married Maurice Preslan in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, on 23 September 1931, and her marriage record names her parents as C. Clyde [Balliett] and Ruth Hegnauer.2 Ruth Anna's later life and death have not yet been traced.
