John Henry Hegnauer was born in June 1866 in Switzerland, the son of Jacob Hegnauer and Verena Siegrist. He probably arrived at New York on 2 April 1884. He married three times: Lizzie Mather (1891), Catherine Meyer (11 December 1920) and Katherine S. Gentner. Between 1892 and 1905 he had seven children, among them Elsie and Ottilie. Censuses list him at Rochester, Monroe County, New York, from 1900 to 1920, at Gates in 1915 and at Brighton in 1930. John probably died on 17 March 1933 at Brighton and was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester.
