Life story
Andreas Worek (in Polish, Andrzej) lived in the last decades of the nineteenth century in western Galicia, the part of Poland then ruled by Austria. He is known only through his son Martin (Marcin), who was born about 1880–1881, probably in the village of Wesoła, in the district of Brzozów and the Roman Catholic parish of Barycz, and who emigrated to America in 1905.1–2
When Martin married Margarita Senkowska, also of Wesoła, at Holy Cross, the Polish church in Joliet, Illinois, on 26 July 1909, the priest entered his parents in the Latin register as Andreas W[orek] and Catharina Pęcherek.1 Twenty-three years later, when Martin died at Joliet in 1932, his death record named his father again, as Andrew Worek, born in Poland.3–4 Martin and Margaret had six children, all born at Joliet between 1910 and 1925 (see Martin's profile). Whether Andreas and Catharina lived to hear of them is not known.

- Place: Wesoła is his son's home village in 1905 and 1909 and is taken as the family's home; it is not proven for Andreas himself.2, 1
- Other children (leads): In 1905 Martin, single, went to join his brother-in-law Michał Uziel at McKeesport, Pennsylvania; Uziel was probably married to a daughter of Andreas and Catharina.2 A Tekla Worek (born about 1884) and a Józef Worek (35, married), both of Wesoła, sailed to New York in 1907 and may be relatives (see Martin's profile).
- Whether living in 1909: The Latin register sometimes marks a dead parent (for example with "†" or "defunctus"); the entry should be re-read for such a mark.
