Catharina Pęcherek (in Polish, Katarzyna) was the wife of Andreas Worek and the mother of Martin Worek (Marcin), who was born about 1880–1881, probably in the village of Wesoła, in the district of Brzozów and the parish of Barycz, in Galicia, the part of Poland then ruled by Austria.1–2

She is known from a single record. When Martin married Margarita Senkowska of Wesoła at Holy Cross, the Polish church in Joliet, Illinois, on 26 July 1909, four years after he had emigrated, the priest wrote his parents' names in the Latin register as Andreas W[orek] and Catharina Pęcherek.1 By the time Martin died at Joliet in 1932, her name had been forgotten on the American side: his death record names his father but gives his mother as "Unknown".3–4 Martin and Margaret had six children, born at Joliet between 1910 and 1925 (see Martin's profile).

  • Sources: Her only record is her son's 1909 marriage register, read on the image in the study's survey of the Worek family.1 His Illinois death index names only his father (FamilySearch's copy has "Unknown" for the mother).4, 3
  • Name: Catharina is the Latin form used by the Joliet priest; in Polish she would have been Katarzyna. The surname Pęcherek is as written in the register (with the Polish ę).1
  • Leads: the registers of the parish of Barycz (Brzozów district), through Geneteka and the Przemyśl diocesan archives, for her marriage to Andreas (Andrzej) Worek and for Martin's baptism (1880–1881). Martin's brother-in-law in 1905, Michał Uziel of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, may have married a daughter of hers.2
