• The Brookville birthplace probably comes from the 1900 census residence, not from a birth record. Her obituary says Newburgh, Ind. (see below). "Garrett" is unexplained. Her mother's maiden name was Johnson (her death certificate, and her mother's obituary naming brothers Charles and Robert Johnson). Garrett may be a first married name. Treat it as a lead only.

Mrs. Hegnauer attended the Longview Community Church and was a member of the Omicron Nu Society, the Pi Lambda Theta Society, the American Association of Social Workers, and the National Retired Teachers' Association. It is secondary evidence (the informant is unknown) but consistent: her mother was born at "Newbury" [Newburgh], Ind., and the mother's brothers lived in Evansville, next to Newburgh. • The 1944 "(wid Wm)" is a directory error or a social convention. Robert L. Sr. was alive (d. 1969), and she had divorced him in 1930. No husband William is known. Flag it; don't create a person. The 1937 index "Spouse Robert" should be checked on the image.
• Dash Point (1949, 1956) is a waterfront community in unincorporated Pierce Co., northeast of Tacoma. That fits the 1950 census entry with no town.

The Burger "marriage": no marriage exists

• The tree links Berenice E. Burger (H0078) as a "Friend", not as a spouse, and has no marriage fact. Berenice's own profile has her gender set to Male, which is an error: she is "Daughter" in the 1930 Fullerton, Nebraska census, and "Berenice" is a woman's name. The two women lived together: in 1950 Berenice was head of the household and Lotta, "Partner", and both were county-welfare social workers. Berenice's tree profile has Tacoma about 1945, death 7 Jan 1998 at Puyallup, and burial at New Tacoma Cemetery, the same cemetery as Lotta.
• Washington did not permit marriage between two women before 2012. Lotta's death certificate says Divorced and surviving spouse "-----"; her obituary names no spouse or companion. There's no marriage to find. The master record's "later married Berenice E. Burger" should be changed to a neutral statement, for example that she shared a household with her friend and colleague Berenice E. Burger from at least 1950. The relationship is recorded only as the census's word "Partner". That term was used in 1950 for unrelated co-householders, so don't over-read it.

• There is no Indiana birth record for her online. An Ancestry birth-category search (Donnell, Indiana, 1890) found no match; the Indiana WPA Birth Index doesn't cover her. There is no SSACI or NUMIDENT line of her own (her SSN was issued in Washington in 1956–57). The evidence for 3 Jan 1890 is the death certificate, the SSDI and the 1900 census (Jan 1890). • The Ohio results for "Lotta Hegnauer" (Canton 1935 marriages, Summit Co. marriage, the Ohio birth index "Lotta M.") are a different family and are not her.
