This file covers the pending hints for both of them, and targeted finds for their main gaps. Everything was viewed on screen. Nothing was saved, accepted, ignored or changed on Ancestry, FamilySearch, Find a Grave, Newspapers.com, WikiTree or Geneteka. Nothing was clipped or downloaded. Readings in [brackets] are editorial. Living people. All six children were born between 1910 and 1925. Five are dead: Stanley (1910–1995), Andrew (1912–1966), Julia (1915–2006), Mary (1918–1994) and Joseph (1922–2018). Katherine/Catharina (b. 1 Aug 1925): her death was not found, so she may be living. She is named only from her 1925 baptism index. Check before any public use. No grandchildren are named.

• Ancestry sources (5): the same five as Martin's.
• Hint counts: 9 new, 0 undecided, 0 ignored, 2 accepted.
• The tree's "Worek" people are only the seven known ones: Martin and the six children (list view, 177 people). No duplicate "Margaret Worek" was seen.
  • Some record pages (1950 census, 1927 directory, WWII card, naturalization index) showed a "Saved"/"Saved to your tree" flag even though the hints are still New. The cause is unknown; possibly another of the owner's trees.

  • the home village Wesoła, as in the 1909 marriage;
  • the year 1905, as in the 1930 census.
  • Nothing contradicts it. Strong.
• New facts:
  • He first went to McKeesport, Pennsylvania (a steel town), to a brother-in-law, Michał Uziel. As a single man, Martin's "brother-in-law" was most likely his sister's husband.
  • He was in Joliet by July 1909.
• Not found on Ancestry. Collection 7488 has other Vaderland passengers of 13 Dec 1905, for example Marcin Czelusniak 7488/4007456274 and Marcin Bober 7488/4007456291. But "Worek", "Marcin" (as given name or surname) and the surname soundex found no Worek line for that date. It is probably indexed under a garble.
  • At apply, browse the Vaderland 13 Dec 1905 images from one of those two records to the Worek page (FS page 10), or cite the FamilySearch record as a web link.
• The tree's "Arrival 1908" fact has no source. It probably comes from the 1920 census answer, which was not re-read. Keep it with a note, or delete it only under the brief's placeholder rule.

    • the nearest relative is a Mrs. Antonia Zowrec in Austria, while our Martin's wife Margaret was living with him and four children in Joliet in 1918 (Mary was baptised at Holy Cross in Apr 1918);
    • the address (Rockdale) is not the family's Hacker Ave.
  • The shared birth date is a notable coincidence. Recorded as a lead: check the 1918–19 Joliet directory for Martin Worek's address.

• They married in Joliet on 26 Jul 1909 and Stanley was born in Joliet on 13 Aug 1910. They were almost certainly in Joliet on 15 Apr 1910, perhaps as boarders under a garbled name. Next step: browse Joliet wards (ward 1 or the Hacker Ave. area) or search on Margaret's given name alone.

Children's baptisms and marriages (Catholic Diocese of Joliet, collection 62097; index only)

A "Worek" soundex search found 22 results. Stanley's (b. 13 Aug 1910) and Andrew's (b. 7 Nov 1912) baptisms are not indexed under Worek.

  • The other burials on the page are of Joliet people (Garnsey, Liberty, Harrison, Hacker, Herkimer streets; Holy Cross and Mt. Olivet cemeteries). This is a Joliet Polish parish register, most likely Holy Cross, filed under St. Scholastica, Woodridge. Martin's 1932 entry is in the same book.

• The Illinois death certificate for 1962 is not online. The Illinois death indexes on Ancestry and FamilySearch stop at 1947/48, and she has no SSDI or SSACI entry of her own.
• Obituary — NOT FOUND. Newspapers.com, "Worek", Illinois, 10–20 Jan 1962: no matches. The Joliet Herald-News for 1962 does not seem to be searchable there. Lead: the Joliet Herald-News, 11–13 Jan 1962, on Joliet Public Library microfilm.
• Remarriage: none found. She was "Margaret Worek, widowed" in 1940 and 1950, and was buried as Worek in 1962.

Martin's burial — image read

  • The cemetery column is blank on this page. The priest's name is dittoed from "Rev. S. P. Ch[…]" [reading].
• The age of 52 fits a birth about 1880, not the index's 11 Nov 1881 (which would make him 50). See Conflicts.
• The cemetery is Holy Cross, per the Illinois death index and FamilySearch.
• No Find a Grave memorial for Martin: a search for Martin Worek found no match. Martin and Margaret are in different cemeteries (Holy Cross, Joliet, 1932; Resurrection, Romeoville, 1962).
• Obituary — NOT FOUND. Newspapers.com, "Worek", Illinois, 27 Sep–5 Oct 1932: no matches.

Galician origin

• Three records now name Wesoła:
  • the 1905 manifest (Martin, "Wesola");
  • the 1907 manifest (Margaret, "Wesola, Austria"; father Josef Senkowski in Wesoła);
  • the 1909 marriage ("Wesoła, pow. Brzozów, par. Barycz").
  • [Wesoła is a village in Brzozów County, Podkarpackie, historically in the Roman Catholic parish of Barycz, Przemyśl diocese.]
• Geneteka: inconclusive. Birth searches by URL for Worek and Senkowski in Podkarpackie returned "Zero results". So did a control search for "Nowak" (1880–81). The URL query evidently does not run a search; it needs the form. No real Geneteka search was done. Lead: search Geneteka through its form for Worek/Senkowski, Barycz parish, births 1875–1892; also the Przemyśl diocesan archive and the Brzozów metrical books.

2. Margaret's birth. 10 Aug 1886 (naturalization card, her own statement) is consistent with 1907 (20), 1930 (44), 1950 (64) and burial at 76 [she would have been 75 on 10 Jan 1962].
   • The outliers: 1888 (1909 marriage age 21; 1920 age 32), 1885 (stone; Find a Grave), and 1892 (1940).
   • Suggested: Birth 10 Aug 1886, Wesoła, with the stone's 1885 as an alternate.
3. Arrival years on the tree. Martin: 1905 (correct; manifest) and 1908 (unsourced). Margaret: 1907 (correct; manifest) and 1910 (unsourced; the 1920 census answer).
   • Replace or annotate them with the manifest dates, 13 Dec 1905 and 12 Nov 1907.
   • The "1908" and "1910" facts have zero sources. Delete them only if the verified plan says so; otherwise keep them with a note that they are census answers.
4. Margaret's 1941 address. The naturalization card gives "1109 Hacker Ave."; the 1940 and 1950 censuses give 1109 Harrison [1950 house number only]. Probably a clerk's mix of the old (209 Hacker) and new (1109 Harrison) addresses.
5. Margaret's 1962 address. The burial register reads "510 Abe St." [reading] against 1109 [Harrison] in 1950. She moved between 1950 and 1962; re-read at apply.
6. Martin's place of residence in 1905–09. McKeesport, Pa. (1905 destination) against Joliet by 1909. This is not a conflict, just a move to add.
7. "Miss Margaret Worck", Joliet, 14 Mar 1907. This is before Margaret's arrival, so it is not her.
8. The index destination "Inlet, Wisconsin" for Margaret: the image reads "Ill., Joliet".
9. Margaret's surname on the tree is "Senkowski". The records give "Senkowska" (the Polish feminine form, used in the 1907 manifest, the 1909 marriage and the 1918 baptism); the Arizona certificate gives "Sankoski". "Senkowski" is acceptable as the standard surname. Add Senkowska as an alternate name.

Gaps

• 1910 census (both). They were probably in Joliet, under a garbled name.
• Martin's WWI draft card (1918). Not found under Worek; "Martin Zowrec" is doubtful.
• Martin's naturalization. None found; alien in 1930.
• Margaret's naturalization petition and certificate (c.1941–50). Only the index card was found.
• Stanley's and Andrew's baptisms (1910, 1912). Not indexed under Worek.
• Katherine's later life and death (living status).
• Obituaries (1932 and 1962). None on Newspapers.com.
• Martin's death certificate image (Will Co. cert. 35823). Not online.
• The 1920 census image was not re-read, so the immigration and naturalization answers behind the "1908" and "1910" arrivals are unchecked.
• Polish parish registers for Barycz. Geneteka is not yet searched properly.

Leads

• Michał Uziel, McKeesport, Pa., 1905: Martin's brother-in-law, probably the husband of a Worek sister. Look for him in McKeesport in 1910 and in Polish parish records.
• Józef ("Josey") Worek of Wesoła, 35, married to "Melona", arrived on the Zeeland on 12 Nov 1907 with Margaret (7488/4032293015; image NYT715_1039-0096 not read; destination "Folice, NY" [Joliet?]). Possibly Martin's brother.
• Tekla Worek of Wesoła, abt 1884, arrived New York 23 Feb 1907. Possibly Martin's sister.
• Paweł Siba/Sika [reading], Joliet, 1907: Margaret's friend and destination.
• "Martin Zowrec", 113 Midland, Rockdale, WWI card 1918 (6482/9448578). Check the Joliet directories for 1917–19 to rule him in or out.
• Margaret's naturalization file 11-306528 [reading]; certificate P-5132 [reading]. Look in NARA Chicago (RG 21, N.D. Ill.) or Will Co. Circuit Court.
• Julia's 1951 marriage (62097/90042262) and her Bahor surname from 1937.
• Holy Cross Cemetery, Joliet: Martin's grave (no Find a Grave memorial).
• A Joliet parish death register (1927–79) is misfiled as St. Scholastica, Woodridge. It holds the Worek burials of 1932, 1962 and 1966.

For integration (suggestions for the lead)

• Variants: Senkowska / Sankoski / "Igenkonwohe" (index garble); Worek / Warich / Zowrec(?).
• New people, not in the tree: Andreas Worek and Catharina Pęcherek (Martin's parents); Józef Senkowski and Antonina Pomykał (Margaret's parents). Add the parents before accepting any hint that names them.
• Recommended saves outside hints:

• None blocking. Geneteka URL searches don't execute, so a form-based search is needed. The Ancestry index line for Martin's 1905 manifest was not found. The Joliet Herald-News for 1932 and 1962 is not on Newspapers.com.
