• What they are: (1) an upright granite family monument lettered "HEGNAUER"; (2) a flat marker lettered "MARTIN / HEGNAUER / 1848 — 1927", both in Rockville Cemetery, Rockville, Bates Co., Mo.
• Memorial text (contributor's note, not a record): "Missouri dc 7203. Born to Lucius & Margaret Varnet Hegnauer. Widower of Mary (Marie Gempler - listed on Missouri dc 2502 of daughter Bertha Hegnauer Brown)." Linked children: Elizabeth Hegnauer Harden (1877–1947, memorial 142891193) and Martin Hegnauer Jr (1884–1950, memorial 142891220).
• Assessment: the marker is a derivative but direct witness to his burial at Rockville and agrees with death certificate 7203 (buried Rockville Cemetery 28 Mar 1927). The Appleton City Journal of 26 May 1927 reports that a monument "for Martin Hegnauer" had lately been erected in the Rockville Cemetery, which dates the stone to spring 1927. Suitable to cite for Burial. The "Marie Gempler" claim rests on Bertha's death certificate, which was not seen in this survey; the 1895 will of Katharina Gambler and the 1927 obituary both give the surname as Gambler.

• Contributor: Harold, Wanda Blackwell. Prairie City Cemetery, Bates Co., Mo. (GPS 38.0846923, -94.1767013). One flower, left by Linda Carpenter Shindler on 10 Oct 2011. The stone reads "MARY HEGNAUER 1851-1885" on a "HEGNAUER" base (per the H0036 survey).
• Assessment: probably Martin's wife. Her dates fit the 1880 census (Mary, 29, born in Pennsylvania) and the 1927 obituary, which says the family came to Pleasant Gap Township in 1885 and "in August of that same year the wife and mother was called home". The Prairie City Cemetery lies in that neighbourhood. Ancestry's Bates County, Missouri, Cemetery Index (5639/15281) gives the same data: born 1851, died 1885, aged 34, Prairie City.
