  • This is his first unit (Oct 1861), which was consolidated into the 4th Mo. Inf. in Jan 1862 (see the CMSR below). Match: exact name, Missouri, and Gasconade County, where the family lived in 1860.

The HDS "Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles" index (ancestry.com/search/collections/1555/records/2856977) claims Co. C, 1st US Reserve Infantry, enlisted 7 May 1861, St. Louis; mustered out 20 Aug 1861. That is unverified; the Fold3 file list shows no such jacket under Hegnauer (possibly filed under a variant spelling).
