Life story
Susan Jane Starr is known only from the old family tree, which makes her the mother of Adelaide M. (Addie) Haywood, the wife of James Harrison Cook. According to that tree she was born on 7 February 1841 in Vermillion County, Illinois, and died on 7 August 1878 at Brock, in Nemaha County, Nebraska; it attaches a photograph of her headstone, copied from another member's tree, but cites no record.1
What the records say of Addie's mother fits. In the census of 1900 Addie gave her mother's birthplace as Illinois, and Addie herself married at Auburn, the seat of Nemaha County, in 1885, when she was nineteen; her own line of the marriage record names her father, Charles Haywood, but not her mother.2–3 If the tree is right, Addie lost her mother at the age of twelve.

- Fit with the records: Addie's mother was born in Illinois (1900 census), and Brock is in Nemaha County, where Addie married in 1885.2, 3
- Husband: The old tree does not link her to Charles Haywood as a couple, and no marriage record has been found; no spouse is entered.1
