Life story
Józef Senkowski lived in the village of Wesoła, in the district of Brzozów and the Roman Catholic parish of Barycz, in Galicia, the part of Poland then ruled by Austria. With his wife Antonina Pomykał he had a daughter, Małgorzata (Margaret), born about 1886; she later gave her birth date as 10 August 1886.1–2
In the autumn of 1907 Małgorzata, twenty and single, left Wesoła for America. When she landed at Ellis Island on 12 November 1907, from the steamer Zeeland out of Antwerp, she gave as her nearest relative at home "Josef Senkowski, Wesola, Austria", her father. She was bound for Joliet, Illinois.3 There, on 26 July 1909, she married Martin Worek, also of Wesoła, at Holy Cross, the Polish church, and the priest entered her parents in the Latin register as Joseph S[enkowski] and Antonina Pomykał.1 She raised six children at Joliet (see her profile). Nothing more is known of Józef; there is no sign that he or his wife followed their daughter to America.
