Life story
Doris Dell Davis was born on 15 July at Pauls Valley, the seat of Garvin County in central Oklahoma, a daughter of Charles L. Davis and Lydia E. Pendley. The year is 1930 in one index of her Social Security record and 1932 in another (see Research Notes).1–2 She applied for a Social Security number as Doris Dell Davis in November 1946, and by December 1950 she was married and using the name Doris Dell Ferguson.1
Some forty years later, after the death of his second wife in June 1990, Doris married Robert Lucius Hegnauer Jr., a Navy veteran of the Second World War who had been a machinist at Longview (see his profile) and later managed a credit union in Seattle.3 By May 1994 her Social Security record was in the name Doris D. Hegnauer.1, 4 Address indexes of the early 1990s list her at Rainier, Oregon, just across the Columbia River from Longview, and at Puyallup, Washington, the towns where Robert was living, and directories of 1996–2002 list Doris and Robert at Earp, a Colorado River community in San Bernardino County, California.5–7 Robert died at Tacoma on 21 June 1999, and Doris was named as his widow on his death certificate and in his obituary.3–4
In 2006 Doris was living at Kingston, in Marshall County, back in her native Oklahoma.8 She died on 13 January 2007.1–2

Her residences come from commercial address indexes, and her marriage to Robert from his death certificate and obituary, whose images were read in the survey of his records. No record image of hers has been read.
- Identity and the marriage to Robert (probable): Robert's death certificate names his surviving spouse as Doris, maiden name Davis, and his obituary his wife Doris.4, 3 Doris Dell Davis's Social Security record shows the name Doris D. Hegnauer from 19 May 1994.1 Address indexes put Doris D. Hegnauer at Rainier and Puyallup, where Robert lived, and a directory lists Doris Hegnauer with her spouse Robert.5, 6, 7 No marriage record has been found; a search of the Washington marriage records for Robert Hegnauer found only his 1982 marriage, and Oregon and Nevada have not been searched.
