Life story
John P. Grill was born about 1894, probably in Missouri, a son of John Grill and his wife Louise, who were both born in Illinois.1–2 In April 1910 he was living with his parents on a farm in Osage Township, just outside Rich Hill, Bates County. Next door lived the family of Robert Kamm and Barbara Hegnauer, with their daughter Christina, then twenty-one.2
On 11 May 1912, at Pueblo, Colorado, John married Christina Louise Kamm.3 By January 1920 his father had died, and John, twenty-five, was renting a farm in Osage Township, next door to Christina's parents, with his wife "Christine", their daughter Lenora, seven, and his widowed mother, Louisa.1 When Christina's mother died in 1923 she was named among the survivors as "Mrs. John Grill".4
Fifty-three years after their marriage John and Christine were still living near Rich Hill, a mile east of the town. She died at the hospital in Butler on 12 December 1965, and John gave the particulars for her death certificate.5 When and where he died has not been found.

- Sources: The 1910 and 1920 censuses, his wife's death certificate and the 1923 obituary were read on screen during the survey of his mother-in-law's records. The Colorado marriage is known only from the index entry attached to him in the Ancestry tree; it has not been re-read.
- Birth: 25 in January 1920 gives 1894 (or January 1895); the family tree's "abt 1895, Missouri" has no source in the tree.1 His age in 1910 has not been extracted.
- Parents: John Grill (53 in 1910, married 32 years, born Illinois, parents born Germany) and Louise or Louisa (65 in 1920, widowed, born Illinois, parents born Switzerland).2, 1 His father died between April 1910 and January 1920. Neither is yet in the study.
