Written during the Ancestry survey stage on 2026-09-26 for tree person 102705476068 ("Susanna Katherine Hirschi", Hegnauer/Putt tree 206849982). Nothing was downloaded, saved, accepted, ignored or changed on any site. Readings in [brackets] are editorial. Record abstracts (censuses, probate, passenger list, obituaries, searches) are in H0038-survey-abstracts.md. Several of these images were already transcribed for Leonhard (H0003) in H0003-member-media.md; cross-references are given instead of repeating those transcriptions.

1. "The photo shows Leonard Hegnauer (1843-1916) and his family." (member photo; hint 1)

  • What it is: the studio group portrait of Leonhard, Susanna and their five surviving children (the same media item, d11a1395, that was accepted on Leonhard as H0003 item 6). Description from Beat Stadler via Judy Yeo [e-mail omitted]: it names "His wife is Susanna Katherine Hirschi Hegnauer (1846 - 1918)" and the children Mary (b. 1866), Leonard (b. 1872), Christian (b. 1868), Katherine (b. 1877) and Robert Lucius (b. 1887).
  • Transcription: see H0003-member-media.md item 6 (description abridged there).
  • Assessment: shows her (seated right, in glasses, wicker chair) with her husband and children, about 1905-1910. Derivative (a family photograph of unstated provenance, passed through a Swiss Stadler relative). Accept on Susanna; it is the same media item as on Leonhard, so accepting links the existing item to her.

2. "Hegnauer family" (member photo; hint 2)

  • What it is: a photocopy of the same family portrait on a page with handwritten labels (the top of a second photograph shows below). This is a separate media item (b4308032) from the one accepted on Leonhard (26dd8d0a, H0003 item 7), but the image content and labels are the same.

  • Assessment: labelled photo naming her as "Susan Katherine (Hirschi) 1846-1918". Derivative, later annotation. Accept (or, if the judge prefers no duplicate image in the gallery, attach the already-saved 26dd8d0a copy to Susanna and Ignore this one). Mary's death year 1918 on the label conflicts with 1920 (lead for H0009).

  • What it is: a head-and-shoulders crop of the elderly woman in glasses in the wicker chair, cut from the family portrait (item 1).
  • Assessment: shows her. Her tree gallery already has 2 items, one of them a profile photo "susanna-hirschi" that looks like the same crop. Ignore after a gallery check (as for Leonhard's portrait hint); if the gallery photo is a different crop, accept instead.

  • Assessment: a copy of the original civil death record (primary for the death, secondary for the birth and parents; the informant was her daughter Mary). Accept (a document about her). Also save the Ancestry index record 60382/221085 (see abstracts). It fixes death at 12 Feb 1918, Pleasant Gap Township (not Appleton City, as the tree has), burial 15 Feb 1918, and her parents Christian Hirschi and Magdalena Stocker (not the Philipp Jakob Hirschi and Katharina Elisabetha Gerber now on the tree). The member-tree card that carries it gives death "12 April 1918 Appleton City", which the certificate contradicts.

  • Assessment: already reviewed and ignored on Leonhard (H0003 item 11). Mary was born in Illinois, not Missouri (1870 and 1880 censuses). Emil (b. 1870) is unproven: he is not in the Aug 1870 census; Find a Grave 78556009 has no marker. The list omits Margaret M. (1918 county history). Ignore; claims logged as leads.

  • What it is: a small (378 x 500) copy of Larry Spangler's Find a Grave photograph (added 8 Oct 2012) of the double gravestone, Reform Cemetery. Read from the full-size Find a Grave original (2448 x 3264):

  • Assessment: shows her grave, but it is a low-resolution re-post of another photographer's Find a Grave image, and the tree already holds jnel126's photo of the same stone on Leonhard (H0003 item 12). Preferred: Ignore this hint and attach Leonhard's existing grave photo to Susanna's Burial fact. Conflict: the full-size photo clearly reads "12. APR. 1918". The stone is wrong (or cut from a mistaken order): the death certificate (12 Feb, filed 20 Feb 1918), the 21 Feb 1918 obituaries, the VA pension card and the 1918 county history all put her death in February. Record the stone's "12 Apr 1918" as an alternate death fact with that explanation, not as preferred.

Her tree gallery has 2 items: "Hegnauer - Hirschi Marriage" (the 1917 duplicate marriage certificate, H0003 item 1, already linked to her) and a profile photo "susanna-hirschi".

Hint 0: Flynn-Russell Family Tree, "Susanna Katharina Hirschi"

  • Claims: born 15 May 1846 Amsoldingen, Verwaltungskreis Thun, Bern; died 12 April 1918, Appleton City; father Christian Hirschi (offered as New); children Mary Christina, Robert Lucius, Leonard, Katherine Susanna, Christian, Emil (New), and a duplicate "Mary Christina Hammer" (New). Search results show the same tree gives mother "Magdolena Stocker" and Residence 1910 St Clair.
  • Assessment: father and mother agree with the death certificate. The April death date and Appleton City death place are wrong. Ignore.
