• The linked page, fold3.com/memorial/284166132/robert-lucius-hegnauer, is a user-built memorial: owner "the owner's", created 13 Feb 2011, modified 26 Oct 2025. It has no stories, no gallery and no source documents. It adds mother Lotta Alice Donnell, father Robert Lucius Hegnauer, and conflict period WWII (1939–1945) with branch Army.
• The identity is right, but the branch is wrong: the Navy muster rolls, the 1944 directory ("USN") and his obituary ("a WWII Veteran of the Navy") all put him in the Navy. It's a derivative compiled from the owner's own research and adds nothing. Recommendation: ignore it, and correct the Fold3 memorial's branch outside this pipeline if wanted.

• Save it to Robert, to Adelaide (H0105) and, if he is added, to Robert Curtis. The tree now shows only one child, a son (living).

• The SSN matches the SSACI, the BIRLS file and the death certificate. Rainier was a residence; he died in Tacoma.

Hint 8: Nevada Marriage Index, 1956–2005 — STRONG identity (the ceremony preceded his divorce)

• Both names are the same as in the Washington certificate. The Reno ceremony took place 7 days before his divorce from Adelaide became final (4 Mar 1982), which probably made it void. The couple married again in Washington on 22 Mar 1982, eighteen days after the decree. Record both events: the Reno marriage (25 Feb 1982) with a note, and the Washington marriage (22 Mar 1982) as the legally effective one. Don't infer more than the dates show.

• Not checked: the Minnesota Historical Society birth certificate index (1900–1934), which should have a Faribault County 1916 certificate. Its search form didn't accept input in this session. The Ancestry Minnesota Birth Index starts in 1935.

• Summary: he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve at Minneapolis on 12 Aug 1943, trained at Farragut, Idaho, passed through Pearl Harbor (the receiving station and the ship repair unit) in 1944, and on 12 Oct 1944 was received on USS Ocelot for duty with Service Squadron Ten, rated MM2c. The discharge date wasn't found. (The Fold3 memorial's "US Army" is wrong.)

• 1940 census (enumerated April 1940): both listed as married, she as "wife".
• Draft card (16 Oct 1940): "Mrs. Adelaide L. Hegnauer, wife".
• Minnesota Official Marriage System (MOMS), searched for surname Hegnauer across all counties: 12 results, none for 1939–1941 and none for Robert and Adelaide. A search for Adelaide Curtis found nothing. So either the Hennepin certificate isn't in MOMS or indexed under another spelling, or the marriage took place elsewhere.
• Assessment: the only direct statement is the 1982 certificate (11 Sep 1940, Hennepin Co.), which is secondary for that fact (it was supplied 42 years later by the petitioner's attorney). The April 1940 census contradicts it. Possibly they married in Sept 1939 and the certificate's year is wrong, or they lived together as a married couple before a Sept 1940 wedding. Record the marriage as 11 Sep 1940, Hennepin Co., Minnesota (source: divorce certificate), with the census conflict disclosed.
