Jakob Hegnauer was born on 27 November 1835 at Aadorf, canton Thurgau, Switzerland, and baptised on 29 November 1835, the son of Zacharias Hegnauer and Elisabetha Liner. On 24 January 1859 he possibly married Luise Müller at Wetzikon, canton Zürich. Between 1859 and 1874 the couple had four children at Elgg, among them Elise and Anna Elise. A child of theirs was buried at Elgg in 1863.
