Life story
Clarence Fulbright was born in North Carolina about 1903.1 He came west to Grays Harbor, on the Washington coast, and married Helen Artlea Wilson, a Missouri-born daughter of James Israel Wilson and Lucy M. Harris, who went by her middle name, Artlea. They had two daughters, born in Washington about 1927 and 1928 (possibly living).1
In April 1940 Clarence, about thirty-seven, was renting at 418 North Division Street in Aberdeen with Artlea and the girls. Helen's mother, Lucy Wilson, ill with tuberculosis and living apart from her husband, had rooms of her own at the same address, and she died there on 3 May 1940; Helen, as Mrs. Artlea Fulbright, gave the details for her death certificate.1–2
Helen was still Mrs. Clarence Fulbright, of Aberdeen, when her brother Woodrow died in 1966, and Helen A. Fulbright when she claimed her Social Security benefits in 1970; in 1979 she married William Robert Davies.3–4 Whether Clarence had died by then, or the marriage had ended in divorce, is not known.

In the census of April 1940 Clarence Fulbright is the head of a household at 418 North Division Street, Aberdeen, with his wife "Artla" [Helen Artlea], 32, born Missouri, and two daughters; five weeks later she signed her mother's death certificate as Mrs. Artlea Fulbright. In 1966 her brother Woodrow's obituary names her Mrs. Clarence Fulbright, and she was Helen A. Fulbright to Social Security in 1970.

The 1940 census is the only record of him read. His wife was still "Mrs. Clarence Fulbright" in 1966 and Helen A. Fulbright in 1970; she married again in 1979. Whether his marriage ended by his death or by divorce is not known.
