Life story
Elmer Arthur Potter, known all his life as Bud, was born on 14 November 1928 in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the first child of Elmer Nelson Potter and Verna Violet Curtis, who had married in neighbouring Chippewa County that April.1–2 In April 1930 he was a toddler in his parents' home in the village of Maynard, next door to his grandparents Arthur and Hazel Curtis, with a baby sister and his aunt Stella Potter.3–4
Bud served in the armed forces and was later remembered as a veteran.2 He married Emrolles Mary "Emy" Kramer, and they had children, among them a son, Elmer Arthur "Butch" Potter Jr., who died in 2018; Emy died in 2019.2, 5 His mother's funeral home named him among her six children when she died at Montevideo in 2001.6
Bud Potter died on 2 February 2023, aged ninety-four. He was then living at Bloomington, in the Twin Cities, and had outlived his wife, his son Butch and a grandson. A memorial service was held at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Bloomington on 22 February, and he was buried privately in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, section 33, site 4796.2, 5
